Bottle Cap Necklaces - Come Unto Christ

Come Unto Christ is the 2014 Young Women's Theme
for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

I haven't been in Young Women's for almost a year, however, I seem to be asked to sub in Relief Society a lot lately, and this theme went along perfectly with my Relief Society lesson on the Savior this month.

I made this exact same kind of necklace a couple of years ago for girls camp when we had the owl theme.  The girls loved the necklaces and they are so fun to make!

I posted a picture on Instagram and Facebook recently that I had been making jewelry.
Since then I've gotten lots of questions on how I made these, where I got all the supplies, etc.
So here we are.

SUPPLIES:
As far as supplies go, it kind of depends on how many you plan to make
as to where you should buy them.
If you're just making a few, buy in small quantities at the craft store.
I saw these exact same bottle caps at Hobby Lobby in a 6-pack for about $4.99.
If you're making lots of them, then for sure buy online in bulk.

The basic must-haves:
Bottle caps (with the flat 1" surface in the center)
Get them with the hole already punched in them and the split rings already attached!!!
Epoxy dome stickers (mine came with my bottle caps)
Aluminum 18" (or longer!) ball chain necklaces
1" Round printable printed on regular paper
Modge Podge
Small paint brush

The fun extras:
Jewelry pins to string beads on
Beads
Special little jewelry ziplock bags to put them in

I got my bottle caps, dome stickers, ball chains and bags on eBay for cheap in bulks of 100!
My Come Unto Christ PRINTABLES I got on Etsy.
I searched and searched printables.  This is my absolute favorite!
You can literally find any printable on Etsy.
The rest I got at Hobby Lobby.
I just used beads I had leftover from previous projects.
It's always nice to use up some of your stash!

First, print out your printable and cut out with your 1" punch.
Have everything laid out and ready to go before you start gluing.
Modge Podge dries fast!

'Paint' just the flat surface with Modge Podge.

Young Women's Values Pinterest Bulletin Board

We were inspired by the Young Women's Pinlight board
that we found on Pinterest and
which was designed by Burlap and Denim.

We created the following bulletin board in our Young Women's room with Burlap and Denim's pdf files, but organized the pictures to be grouped with the values and renamed them Value Pins.

I love how it turned out!

And if you're reading this, I'm pretty sure you're OWLready a bird fan.

Soooo, what's cuter than ONE owl?

Wild Animal Print Owl's

What's black and white and wild animal print all over?

THESE PSYCHEDELIC OWLS!

As soon as I saw a similar owl on Instagram,
I just knew I had to make these for my YCL's (youth camp leaders) for girl's camp!

Girl's Camp Banner and Other Camping Decor :)

Yep, I said it.  I decorate when I go camping.
Doesn't everyone???

Well, okay, if I were going camping with Cowboy
I wouldn't decorate...very much.
He just doesn't get it.
Nor does the rest of my family.
But when I go to CHURCH camp, and it's pretty much ALL GIRLS,
then totally yes, I'm DECORATING!

The woods are gorgeous to gaze upon, that much is true!
But when you're looking at the CABIN, well, it just needs a little sumn sumn.
Or....maybe......a LOT.

My cabin mom partner, Ronnie and I LOVED sprucing things up a bit!

Since summer is almost here and we're about to embark on another girl's camp adventure, I thought I'd share some ideas on how you can liven up your camping quarters.

You can also see HERE what gifts I gave the girls each day.
CAMP.  IS.  FUN!

First of all, I made this banner
out of a bunch of super fun paper that I already had in my stash.
(THIS is why you need a stash, ladies!
So that when you get around to making something with it,
 it feels like it's free......lol)
I staple-gunned it to the beam, one corner at a time.
Yeah, it was a pain, but so worth it.
Dontcha just love the color and joy it adds to our cabin porch?
Ronnie brought the pink sheer curtains (***BIG HEARTS*** for those!)
and the pink feather boa!
All we were missing was buckets and buckets of pink paint and an air sprayer!

Girl's Camp Handouts and Gifts

Only one week of school left, and it's almost that time again for....

GIRL'S CAMP!

If you're like me
you're already thinking about and preparing ways
to enrich the experience at camp this summer.

Last year I had the awesomely fabulous privilege of being a cabin mom
 (for the first time)
over a group of 14 year old girls.
Ohmygosh, what fun we had!

I loved girl's camp as a youth growing up in Las Vegas!!
My young women leaders were fun, inspired, and dedicated!
But I gotta say, camp in Vegas was like REAL camping.
I like girl's camp in Arizona MUCH better!
More on that later
....watch for my upcoming post on how to
make your camp experience more beautiful!  lol

Anyway,

Six days, six handouts
(any of these would also be great to give to your secret sister!)

Our camp theme was
Happily Ever After
and a lot of focus was on recognizing that you are a daughter of God
which makes you royalty!
And on being prepared to be married in the temple

DAY ONE
Princess Survival Kit
This is the front of a card I made for each girl.
I actually got the 'Princess in training' graphic from my Silhouette software.
We used the same design to make t-shirts for the girls in our ward
(which is different from the girls in my cabin
...although I did have three of my ward girls in my cabin
...which was FUN!)

The inside of the card
The other cabin mom and I signed our names under 'Your Cabin Queens'
I thought this might break the ice
and let them know right away that we were there for them.

Here is their 'survival kit' that was placed with the card onto each of their pillows.

Easter at the 'Farm' House

A little late in posting this, but seriously, our Easter was so fun, I wanted to share ANYWAY.

{there are a couple of Young Women Easter handouts at the end of this post}

I got a few of the Easter decorations up.  On Easter day.
Last minute I thought it would be fun to spruce up our dining tables for our lovely big family dinner.

Book of Mormon Read-A-Thon

A couple of months ago I read in the newspaper about an LDS Youth group
who'd had a Book of Mormon Read-A-Thon.
It intrigued me, but I was sure that OUR youth group
would be bored to tears.....

Temple Worthiness Card - Young Women's Handout

Years ago at stake conference,
one of the stake presidency counselors stated that he wished teenagers could have temple recommends as a reminder to conduct themselves
in a more worthy manner.

PSYCH NIGHT

Our Girl's Camp isn't until summer
(that's why we call it GIRL'S SUMMER CAMP...hehe),
but every year our {awesome} stake Young Women's leaders have a night
several months before camp to
  • get the girl's PSYCHED UP for this year's summer camp
  • have a reunion (complete with super-fun slide show of the previous year's camp)
  • have the 'new' girls see what it's all about
  • announce what this year's camp theme will be
  • brush up on our camp songs
  • give our {awesome, mixed with some crazy} Priesthood leaders a chance to show off their

RID-DIK-OO-LUS DANCE SKILLS!
*insert hip hop music here*

Can you guess what our new theme is?
